El-Sayed says the $225 billion Americans hold in medical debt should not exist: he erased it for upwards of 300,000 Michiganders in Wayne County and favors abolishing it for every American.
Should medical debt even exist?… $225 billion of debt that people accrued because they had the audacious choice of going and seeing a doctor when they got sick… The existence of medical debt is a policy choice we continue to make in this country, and it's a policy choice we should not make anymore.
