The SCOTUS decision today guts the prohibition on racial gerrymandering, effectively using the redlining of the past to rob Black folks of equal representation in the future.

WHAT HE HAS SAID

• Supports a federal nonpartisan committee of experts to draw congressional districts.
• Committee members would be appointed for defined terms on a rolling basis and work alongside the U.S. Census Bureau, similar to the Federal Reserve Board.
• Calls that structure the closest practical way to end the partisan gerrymandering that comes with letting states draw their own seats.
